If you plug a UK trailing socket into a french travel adaptor, you can easily draw too much current through the travel adaptor. Some cheap british > french adaptors are only rated at 600 watts. A safer way to plug your British tools and other electrical items into the french supply without changing all the plugs(which are probably moulded on!) is to take a British 4 way trailing socket to France with you. When you get there cut the UK 3 pin plug off the end and replace it with the appropriate round french plug. Using this technique you should be able to plug up to a total of 3000 watts of appliances into the trailing socket, assuming that you use a 13amp 240 volt UK trailing socket.

The trailing adaptor allows you to plug 4 english electrical appliances into a single french outlet
