The size and position of letter boxes is specified by the Association Francaise de Normalisation or AFNOR, and the letter box should be approved by La Poste (The French Post Office).
AFNOR have taken the hassle out of choosing and locating your letterbox by specifying the size and position
La Poste recommend that the boite au lettres is situated in an easily accessible place on the perimeter or entrance to your property, whilst AFNOR requires a letter box to be positioned at a height of between 80cm and 150cm.
The dimension of the letter box should be 26 cm in height, 26 cm in length and 34 cm deep and it must be clearly marked with your name.
