Self Leveling Compound

Saturday, November 6th, 2010

I never expected to pour the floor in the front of the barn on the day we did, if the ready mix had arrived with a concrete pump as ordered there would not have been enough concrete to fill this area. I had started to put shuttering for the floor in place, but the weight of the corrugated concrete chute must have moved some of the shuttering, consequently when this part of the floor was poured there was a slope of approximately 40mm from the external wall to the front door.

The mezzanine floor is 196cm from the ground floor.  The stair riser height was calculated using the Metric Staircase Calculator and the layout of the stairs designed by Jaques on squared paper and Archicad 13.

Concreting the barn floor

Friday, July 10th, 2009

During the wait for the concrete to arrive, a few worse case scenarios are discussed, the worst of these being that the concrete conveyor would not reach the back of the barn and we would have to move it from half way inside to the rear wall, so a shoot was constructed from some corrugated [...]

Preparing for the concrete floor

Wednesday, June 24th, 2009

It’s a lot easier to get the water in and sewage out of the barn under the doorway than digging under wall. I have also added a red plastic cable protector so that the electric could enter below the door if necessary. The steel grid is not really required because the floor is not load [...]

Installing a concrete floor with damp proof membrane in a stone barn

Monday, May 25th, 2009

Polystyrene foam, Kingspan or Celotex can go either above or below the concrete slab, 10% of heat in a building is lost through as uninsulated floor.

Concreting the barn floor – French Ready Mix Prices

Wednesday, May 13th, 2009

The barn has a cobbled floor in the front section and compacted soil floor at the back. A damp proof membrane can either go above or below the concrete floor. I have decided to put a damp proof course under the concrete, but I may an additional one on top of it when its finished [...]

mezzanine floor

Tuesday, November 7th, 2006

We used the original spacings and holes from the original oak joists, we had to enlarge them vertically to accomodate the new joists. Originally the barn had a ‘loft’ at the front, we removed all the original rotten joists, and replaced with new timber. Whilst the chipboard might have had some water resistant properties, unfortunaley [...]
